What are prompts?

Prompts are the instructions, questions, or pieces of input text that you give to an AI model to tell it what you want it to do or generate. Think of a prompt as the starting point of a conversation with an AI, it sets the context, defines the task, and often includes details about format, tone, or constraints that shape the response. Prompts can be as simple as a single question, like asking an AI to define a word, or as complex as a multi-paragraph instruction set that includes background context, examples of desired output, specific formatting requirements, and a defined persona for the AI to adopt.
