What is prompt writer?
A prompt writer, sometimes called a prompt engineer, is someone who specializes in crafting the input text, or prompts, given to AI language models in order to get the most accurate, useful, or creative output possible. This role has grown significantly alongside the rise of tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Claude, since the way you phrase a request to an AI can dramatically change the quality of the response you get back. A skilled prompt writer understands how to structure instructions clearly, provide relevant context, specify tone and format, and sometimes include examples to guide the AI toward a desired style, known as few shot prompting. This can apply to text generation, image creation, code writing, or data analysis tasks. Businesses increasingly hire prompt writers or prompt engineers to develop reusable prompt templates for customer service bots, content generation workflows, or internal AI tools, since well-crafted prompts save time and reduce the need for extensive manual editing afterward. It's part art and part technical skill, requiring an understanding of both how the AI model works and what the end user actually needs from the output.
