About this tool

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears in your content relative to the total word count. This counts single words and multi-word phrases as you type, so you can spot unintentional over-repetition or confirm your target keyword shows up often enough to signal what the page is about.

What counts as a "common word"

With the checkbox on, filler words like "the," "and," "is," and "of" are excluded from the single-word table, since they naturally appear often in any text and would otherwise crowd out more meaningful words. Phrase tables (2-word, 3-word) are left unfiltered, since phrases like "in the" can still be part of a meaningful longer phrase.

What density to aim for

There's no strict rule search engines enforce, but a common guideline is keeping a focus keyword around 1 to 2% of total word count. Far above that risks reading as repetitive or spammy; the more important signal is using a keyword and its natural variations where they genuinely fit the content.
