Why it's not random gibberish
The classic lorem ipsum passage comes from a scrambled section of a 1st-century BC Latin text by Cicero. It stuck around because it approximates the letter and word-length distribution of real language well enough to give a realistic sense of how a block of text will look, unlike a repeated placeholder phrase.
